Did you know that under the right conditions you can make a candle burn even better? Below we share some tips to make your FIK Candle burn even better.
Let your candle burn properly the first time
When lighting a new candle for the first time, it is important to let it burn long enough. Let your candle burn for at least two hours, or until the top layer has completely melted to the edge of the glass. This prevents the formation of a so-called “tunnel,” where only the center of the candle burns and unused wax remains along the sides.
Keep the wick at the correct length
Check the wick before lighting the candle. A wick of maximum one centimeter ensures an even flame and prevents the formation of soot. A wick that is too long can lead to an unsteady flame, more soot and a shorter burning time.
Remove soot from the wick
After burning, a small black ball may form at the end of the wick. Carefully cut this away before relighting the candle. This minimizes the chance of soot and ensures a cleaner burn.
Specially for wooden wicks: remove charred wood
Do you have a candle with a wooden wick? Make sure that you remove the charred part of the wick every time before you light the candle. This ensures that the flame remains stable and your candle burns best. A charred wooden wick that is too long can cause the candle to have difficulty lighting or to burn irregularly. You can easily do this by breaking off the charred wick with your fingers.
Keep your candle away from drafts
A candle that is in a draft burns faster and can burn unevenly. This can lead to smoke, soot formation and a shorter burning time of your candle. Therefore, place your candle in a draft-free place to optimally enjoy a calm, even flame.
Store your candle in the right place
Do you have a candle that you are not using for a while? Store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This will prevent the candle from melting and will help to preserve the scent. Direct sunlight or heat can cause the wax to soften or the scent to become less intense.
Enjoy your candles longer and more safely
With these burning tips, you can get the most out of your candles: they burn longer, better and safer. Whether it’s preventing tunneling or maintaining the wick, a little extra attention ensures an optimal candle experience. Enjoy the warmth, ambiance and scent that candles bring into your home – in a way that is safe and makes your candles last longer.
